Studying Spanish at OISE Madrid
All the intensive Spanish courses at OISE Madrid provide a full day of study because we understand that a complete immersion experience is the most productive way to learn Spanish. The key to making real progress is to maximize the student´s contact time with Spanish. For this reason OISE Madrid only provides fully individual courses, or small group options with a maximum of 4 students per class.
While learning Spanish grammar and increasing their working vocabulary is an important goal for many OISE students we believe that this is best achieved within a communicative framework.Throughout the day we provide range of learning contexts in which students develop the confidence and fluency that will make them effective communicators in Spanish. At all stages of the course the tutors focus on improving the students´ actual performance with Spanish as well as their overall knowledge.
The morning begins with a press review session in which students look at the daily Spanish press with a tutor and present a chosen article. which leads to a group discussion. Thus the day begins with a genuinely communicative activity which also serves to immerse students in the issues which dominate contemporary Spain. In the classroom sessions themselves the focus is on maximizing the students talking time as the tutors pay attention to key elements of pronunciation such as intonation, rhythm and stress as well as grammatical accuracy. Students are also coached in non verbal communication so that they learn to use Spanish with the same confidence they have in their native language.
Throughout the day, in coffee breaks and during the social activities, students will have plenty of opportunities to speak Spanish. As they progress in their course they will find that they become increasingly comfortable as they learn to use Spanish in day to day situations. T
he host families at OISE Madrid are also chosen specifically because they provide a friendly and communicative environment that enables students to continue the immersion experience in the evenings.
